Using EA Off Site
« on: May 04, 2006, 03:54:33 am »
Hello

We have purchased an Enterprise 5 licences for EA and are using the Shared Key model (pointing at the KEYS dat file on a network shared folder)

However, on occassion we need to go to a Customer site where it may not always be possible to gain access back at to our own network..Is there a way of being able to use this licence model and work standalone?

If you mean you are physically moving your computer - a laptop or something - to the customer site, you should be OK.

You should be able to set a time period for which a key is valid. I believe this is done at your key server. Then when you acquire a key you may disconnect from your network, and EA on the laptop (say) will continue to use its 'rented' key for that period. The key server will consider this key to be in use, so only 4 other users will be permitted at the home site.

If you exceed the 'rental' period the laptop copy of EA will stop working - it considers the key to be expired or unavailable - and the server will again offer the key to connected users.

When you reconnect things will be reconciled. If you've expired on the laptop it can once again acquire a key. If you have not, the laptop and server will cooperate to sort out availability across the user group.

If you cannot find directions search this forum. I think you will find what you want by looking for "floating" but I'm not sure. Last time I saw directions was quite a while back, so set the number of days to take you back several months.
No, you can't have it!
