Business Process Mapping
« on: May 16, 2006, 02:55:22 pm »
Is there a plan to use BPMN Notation and Artifacts for mapping business processes? and i guess the spin off to this is to export in BPEL to a Business Processing Server such as Oracle, IBM, jBoss etc

It would enable us (and many others) to consolidate the EA toolset and maybe just use one! Now there's a novel idea.

thanx

Hi Don,

I would think that having BPMN would enable you to map business processes...

I think Sparx has made a couple of tweaks to the BPMN since it first appeared. I also remember them mentioning BPEL export as a goal for an upcoming version. I cannot say for sure if that is likely to be 6.5 (or 6.x) or version 7, but I [i[think[/i] they were aiming at something soon. You could search the forum for this, but I really don't remember if I saw it here.

As to import of BPEL, that's still a mystery. One would expect that both directions would be handled, at least in the Sparx dialect. However, whether they will be able to interoperate with another dialect is anybody's guess.

I too am waiting for this. My hope is that it will be out in version 6.5 (ish) and that there will be some additions to the BPMN add-in. At present my clients seem pretty quiet on this, but I know that will change before too long.

Once the above have been accomplished, we can all gang up on Sparx to add a validating parser for pi-calculus  ;)

David
No, you can't have it!
