EA 6.0 First Impressions

Hello,

I testet the new version little bit.

Well done:

- you can create a dublicate of attributes and methods with the COPY button
- you can display .c and .h files for one class in the source editor window (only thing missing now: we use a private header file additionally, that cannot be displayed without tricks yet)
- the discussion forum is great
- python support
- svn support

Still missing:

- better undo
- easier user interface for beginners
 It should be possilbe to hide options depending of the role of the user
- the possiblity to create more than one instance of an element for submachines (state diagram), as it is possible already to create n actions for one activity
- the possibilty to use different character sets in notes (we need special characters, e.g. math symbols in notes.
In our web documentation we use LaTex for this purpose.)
- C code generation. Well, I started to implement this myself and will publish my code next year, hopefully as open source.
- reverse engeneering of functions into activity diagrams

Thats about it.

Well done, this product will have a bright future.

Maybe almost all characters are broken in your web browser,
but I think you can check image of Class relations and
generation result .

Yes, now actual template files are for only registered users
of EA Japanese version. If you (and other people)
are interested in the templates, I'll upload them
to EA User Group website.

Hello All,

I'm new to UML and all.

I'm going to try the demo version to learn from it.
However, my goal is to use enterprise architect to develop software for 16 bit embedded systems.

For that I need C code to be generated. You seem to have been doing some work for it already.

what are your experiences at the moment? Do you have functional C-code generation? what are it's limits, etc?

I would like to know what the amount of work will be to get this working.

C-Code generation is still difficult.  :-/

I have a working code generation for classes of stereotype singleton and enumerations.

What I would really need is a code generator for state machines.
It is not that difficult, but I don't find the time to write it right now.
(I am writing my thesis about "Optimization of a security related
stepper motor control for a medical infusion pump" in the moment,
I won't have the time to continue the work on the C code generator
before I finished my theses.)
