Use of alternative Key Managers?
« on: January 02, 2008, 04:17:06 am »
Dear All,

I am an absolute beginner with Enterprise Architect as well as with the issue of license management and key servers. My question is primarily a technical one: Is the floating license mechanism used by the Enterprise Architect bound to function with the sparx key server only, or is it possible (or even foreseen, or not wished by Sparx at all) to use it with other key managers?

I have come across another users response stating that the fact that FLEXLm is not involved was encouraging. I don't have enough knowledge, not to speak about experience, to judge that remark or FLEXLm itself. Nevertheless, can anybody give me a better insight into this issue?

Is the floating license mechanism based on a proprietary protocol, or is there an open interface one could satisfy with other key servers, for example in case a company has some other products already managed by them and would like to keep their environment homogeneous?

Thanks in advance for any clarification on this issue!

The Floating License mechanism used by Enterprise Architect is proprietary and is not compatible with other floating license management systems at this time.  We have had requests to support other third-party license servers (such as FlexLM) but there is no development towards this at the present time.
