Interrupt Flow
« on: August 09, 2006, 08:54:25 am »
Hi,

I am using Enterprise Architect 6.1.792 Trial Edition and I am having a problem with it locking up when I try to use "Interrupt Flow" in an Activity Diagram.

We are creating a use case model, and we are using activty diagrams to model the scenarios in one diagram.  And we need to model that an exception can be thrown in a scenario when the User Fails authentication.  However we cannot do this.  I have tried putting the "User Authentication" Activity inside a Interruptable Region and then linking the region with an exception handler. The user intface locks up, and after a while all it offers us is a mouse icon with a "(+)" next to it.

Has anybody had problems with EA just locking up when trying to use the Interrupt Flow.  If so how did you get around it.

I have seen the posts about checking that the UML 2.0 compliance checking should be turned off, but I have tried this and I still get the same effect that I described above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I've not seen this myself, but I have not tried doing quite what you describe. I'd suggest filing this immediately as a possible bug - after you ensure you can replicate the behavior of course.

You can get to the bug report page from the EA main menu via Help / On-line Resources / Bug Report Page.

Sparx is pretty good at attacking things that cause EA to fail or lock up. You'll likely get a quick response.

In the meantime keep watching for replies here - turn notification on if you have not. Someone has surely run into something similar, and can offer a workaround. At the very least you might get a suggestion for an alternate way of accomplishing what you need.

HTH, David
No, you can't have it!

Hi,

Thanks for the response.  If anyone has any suggestions of an alternative way to model exceptions at a use case activity diagram level I would appreciate the input.
