How can I delete locked orphan notes?

With multiple modelers in the same model, we have "Require User Lock to Edit" turned on.  Now I find that elements that don't appear in the browser (e.g., notes, boundaries, text) can get orphaned and become difficult to delete.  Doing a "Find Orphans" search displays them, but I don't know how to lock them, and they can't be deleted without locking them.  Any suggestions?  Is there an option or feature that I haven't learned that makes this possible?
