Use Case Scenario, Textual Description
« on: September 08, 2006, 02:57:10 pm »
Say I created a use case modeling element.  In its element properties, I went to Scenario tab and entered textual descriptions for the Basic and Alternate paths.

Is there a way to show this text on a diagram, say on a note or any other modeling element, without doing a cut-and-paste.  That is, the text and the "note" on the diagram are at synch?

I'm using EA v6.1

Yes you can.

Although I am using 6.5, the procedure should be the same. Look up "Linking Notes to Internal Documentation" in the EA HTML help. The idea is explained there, but the next page - titled "Link a Note to an Element" - actually tells you how.

When you follow the directions there are two things to keep in mind:
  • You can usually save a bit of time by right-clicking the use case and selecting Add / Note from the context menu.
  • Remember that to link to the element (step 4 on the help page) you need to right-click the note link. [I seem to be completely incapable of remembering this myself, so always have to fumble around wondering why it failed.]
Once you fill out the resulting dialog you'll get the results you described.

Haven't tested in 6.5.797 yet, so I cannot tell if it is working for constraints as well, I didn't, but it should.

Yes, it works fine for constraints in 797. In particular, on the same element you can attach a note to a constraint, as well as another note to, say, a scenario.
