Save User Profile?
« on: September 22, 2006, 12:38:25 pm »
Hi,

We've finished evaluating EA and are switching over to the registered product.  This requires us to uninstall/reinstall.  A couple of our analysts have customized their menu layouts, default line styles, tools pallettes, etc.  A quick jaunt through the help system didn't locate an easy way to save off all these settings to import for the new install.

Is there a way to save all these user options off so they can be reloaded?  This would also be useful for some of the analysts who switch between their desktop pcs and laptops.

If there's not a built-in way to do this, is there a registry section we can export/import to accomplish this?

Thanks for any assistance...

-- Mike :-)

Sorry Mike, I don't think there is a built-in option. If there is, it would be someplace like reference data. You can look, but I fear you won't find it.

There are a few cases where you will need to reset the menu stuff. Doing so will cause you to lose customizations. This is a bit like MS Office, and with the same results.

This is the sort of stuff that is most likely stored in the registry, so for that I believe you are on the right track. My suggestion is to watch this thread - set the Notify of Replies option if you have not done so already (you may have to post a reply to this message to do so, but I don't think so). Sparx can be pretty quiet during the weekend, but they're from the 'Land of Aus' so they come back to work while many of us are still enjoying a cold one on Sunday.

Look for 'Sparx Systems' in the registry for the relevant section.  Although the uninstall - reinstall isn't likely to lose the information.
