XML instead of HTML?

I am considering changing the HTML templates into XML, as that format can be the base for transformations into various other useful formats (HTML, RTF, Word (soon), PDF).

Is there some reason why this will not be possible in EA?

Does the HTML rendering mechanism insist on producing HTML and framesets? If so, may that be changed?
