Problem with copied diagrams
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:19:16 am »
Hi,

I have 6.5 build 799.

When I copy-paste a diagram or copy-paste the content into a new one and then I proceed to remove links, the links are also removed in the original diagram.

Is there a way to prevent this behavior?

Thanks

You are making a "shallow" copy of the diagram, where you want a "deep" copy.

Look up Duplicate a Diagram in EA help for an explanation of the difference, as well as instructions.
No, you can't have it!

The deep copy copy the tables into the package which is definitly not what I am looking for.

Besides, I can link the same table several times manualy in different diagrams without affecting the links even though the table appears in only one package (all my tables are in one package and I drop them in several diagrams). If I can do it manualy, a copy should do so as well.

If a redo the links manualy, they appear only in that diagram, not in the other one...which means that I have to redo all the links manualy but that defeats the purpose of doign a copy paste.

Set the option "Tools | Options | Links | Prompt on connector deletes". Then next time you select a connector and press Delete, EA will ask whether you want to hide or delete the connector: choose "Hide the connector" and optionally also choose "Don't ask again".
