Elements reused without association
« on: January 10, 2007, 04:49:12 am »
Hiya,
I'm trying to use EA to a specific system documentation: it's a Configuration Plan, when we have Tasks that could be reused in any Configuration created and finally and more important, the Configuration represent the Task sequences, that is different in each Configuration.

To represent this in EA I'm using the Configuration as an Activity Diagram and each task as an Activity Element.

So, my problem is to represent a Diagram with these shared Tasks, but without sharing the association, as EA do as default -> When I drag-an-drop the Task, EA brings automatically the association between any other Task created in other COnfiguration, I'm not want that!

Does anybody nows how to solve this?

Regards,
Carol

Carol,

I don't think so, at least not automatically.

However, try changing the Tools | Options | Diagram | Behavior setting for Layout uses all relations. I don't think this is what you want, but the documentation is a bit vague.

You can remove a link from an individual diagram without removing it from the model. Right-click and choose Set Visibility | Hide Connector. An alternative is to click a link on your 'master' diagram - perhaps where you first created the link - and choose Set Visibility | Hide Connector in Other Diagrams. However, this might not cover any diagrams you create afterwards; you'd still have to hide those links using one of these methods.

No, you can't have it!

Tks, David!
I'm trying now to use the activity not as a "simple link" but as "instance" when I drag-and-drop the element. It's working parcially, but I think we can work this way until we could find a better way to do it...
Cheers!
