Help with RFT Generation
« on: January 19, 2007, 08:43:02 am »
Hi,

I'm new to EA and trying to save some time, I'm not satisfied with the default RTF generator....does anyone have any templates they can share with me for documenting the following stored in EA:

- Requirements
- State Machine Diagrams
- Use Cases
- User Interface Mockups
- Data Model

Much appreciated.

There are several threads on RTF and EA. So I would suggest starting there...

Myself, I use MS Word & SQL queries to EA to produce documentation directly from the model... very powerful approach, but you do need to get your hands dirty with some VBA in MS Word (and or Access)

My approach is basically this...

1. Use Access as a front-end to massage the data contained in the EA tables, so that ...

2. My Word docuements with database field codes (containing the SQL statements hitting my Access tables) pull the data from EA and present it in a format that I have defined using word...

Pretty clean method for now. Later I will write an add-in to EA to skip the Access part, and then control word directly from EA using automation...

Hope that gets you thinking of some other possible approaches besides living with/waiting for EA's RTF capabilitiy to improve significantly...
