Large class names in Seq diagrams
« on: January 31, 2007, 06:19:10 am »
Hi, we have classes with some fairly large names. These cause swim lanes to become quite wide. Is there some way to switch on word wrap for these elements? I'd like to be able to override the width of swim lanes by dragging the boundaries. Thanks.

Could you use an alias? [I don't know if sequence diagrams allow this though.]
No, you can't have it!

Yes I had that idea also but the alias shows up in addition to the class name :)

From the main menu options (not diagram options) click the Behavior tab.

At the bottom of the dialog, look at the Alias usage box. Try the Alias Only option.

Does this work?

I'm afraid not. It was already selected. Besides the alias - My preference would really be word wrap so others than I can make sense out of this on hard-copies.

Perhaps you should author a suggestion to Sparx to have this option work - perhaps work better, or differently, or whatever - for sequence diagrams.

Here's the current (best?) practice.

Start a thread in the Suggestions and Requests section of the forum. This lets other community members express support, post ideas and alternates, and report any solutions or workarounds they may have found.

Then make a feature request to Sparx. You can find the page by clicking the Support link at the top of a forum page and looking at the left side menu, or you can reach it from the EA main menu via Help | On-line Resources | Request-a-Feature. Paste the URL of your forum thread into the feature request so the Sparxians can check on the level of support and perhaps comment themselves.

If Sparx has anything interesting to say on the subject, please post this to your new S & R thread.
