Advice on multi-user / version control
« on: March 23, 2006, 02:18:35 am »
Hello Gurus,

Our plan is to work on the same model together with approx. 5-10 people and we want to do something with version control (we use ClearCase). What is the best way to deal with this:

- Place the model in e.g. SQLserver DB (but how are versions controlled?)
- Control subpackages and check them into ClearCase.
- Use the EAP file on a network directory, make a daily backup

Perhaps there are more altenatives. In the end, I'm looking for some best practises.

Thanks!

M.

In case you don't know: read this
Can't help more since I'm more or less a single user...

Thanks, I've read the document earlier but it seems that EA doesn't support ClearCase. Also I am wondering what is best: either to chop up the model into packages that are manually controlled by ClearCase or to use a database such as SQL server.

There are many users with EA/ClearCase. Maybe you can search for that keyword here in the forum. I don't know if there's a best practice thread :-/

Hi,

just a little side-note. The version control is independent of the way you store your model, you can use version control regardless of whether your model sits in a SQL Server or EAP file. The way it works is that when you check a package in, EA exports it into an XML file and checks the file into the version control of your choice. THe link Thomas posted above is definitely a good place to start reading.

Hello,

I'm a newbie to EA and was wondering if you have any recommendations on how to control the packages in ClearCase?  Is it easy to integrate the tools?
Do you have any recommendations?

Any feedback on this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Linda

Try to search the forum first. There are a lot of posts concerning ClearCase.
