File already in use
« on: March 30, 2007, 07:22:28 am »
We have a Project File on a shared network drive/folder and I am getting an error stating the "file already in use". The documentation states that a Project can be shared if on a network drive yet why will it only allow one in at a time?  :-/

Just guessing here, but...

Check the file permissions first, make sure that you've not got an 'owner' for the file, preventing others from accessing it.

Also check how you are opening it. Older versions of EA opened EAP files for exclusive access. I believe (you'll have to check) that the Desktop Edition still does, while the others open such files for shared access. If any of your users have the Desktop Edition (and if I'm correct in my assertion) then they would cause the file to lock if they opened it, or they would receive an error message if someone already had it open for shared access (since they would be denied an exclusive lock).
No, you can't have it!

Yup that was it. The developer had entered the wrong key and it put EA in Developer Edition. Once he entered the correct Corporate Key everything went as expected.

Thanks

Mom always said there would be those days, Tadd. 'Finger trouble' gets us all from time to time.
