Shape script for instances
« on: March 10, 2008, 06:20:15 pm »
Is there a way to add shape scripts to instances of stereotyped elements?

I keep thinking I got this to work, but it must have been a long while ago.

What happens if you set the shape script to apply to objects?

Thanks for the help.
It probably works. I wanted to add a script to an activit invocation (action) and it worked fine.

Martin,

You really got me thinking about this. I've gone through the documentation (2008-02-22 version) and cannot find anything on this. We can query the classifier, including the metatype. But we cannot seem to query on whether the 'thing' we're drawing is an instance.

I suggest you send in a support request - use the link on the ordinary (non-beta) Registered Users page - to find out how to do this. One would think that we could draw instances differently than classifiers. After all, EA does this throughout.

Please let us know what Sparx has to say on this one. If this is a 'missing' feature we need it fast. [I know I will, and soon enough that we cannot wait for a 7.5 release.]

From memory I was working briefly on something similar to this.  I had to stereotype the instance.  (Shape scripts only apply based on a stereotype)

Simon,

What seems to be missing is the ability to create an instance with a stereotype. Ideally this would be somehow possible from the toolbox, given the new method of loading an MDG Technology.

Perhaps what we need is a new 'supported attribute' at stereotype (or toolbox page) profile design time. This attribute would signal that the 'thing' would be an instance rather than a classifier. [This is sounding more and more like a toolbox item. It would likely have to be a bit different than a supported attribute.]

Should I open a support request on this Simon? Or if you'd prefer, send me an email and we can bounce this around a bit.

This is going to be a real problem for me almost immediately. We're ramping up for some stuff, and I think it will require large instance models. Of course they'd all be stereotyped, and of course, they'd all be rendered with scripts.

I have got to take up a safer hobby. Perhaps playing in traffic...
