It would be very useful to be able to subscribe to a board for notification on new messages. For example I would like to register for a notification every time there's a new message on the Latest News board so that I can see when there's a new build available.

It would also be nice if the 'Hey...' text about instant messages only appeared if you had new messages.

I don't need someone saying 'Hey - you've still got some messages that you've already read', information content = 0.01

I made this suggestion some time ago, and was apparently not the first. Perhaps it is becoming time to contemplate whether the response I got then - you can search for it, or try to - still applies.
