Deletion Rules -Data Model
« on: June 07, 2007, 12:15:10 am »

Is it possible to set deletion rules to table relationships in a data model? E.g. deny, restrict, cascade...

Yes, take a look at the Foreign Keys dialog. Remember that you get to this dialog by right-clicking the association between the participating tables. This is the preferred way to set up key relationships, since doing it via operations alone can easily provide problems.

When you've created the key (and clicked the Save button I think) you will notice the Cascade Update and Cascade Delete check boxes become enabled.

You can also get to these by choosing the FK portion of the key (i.e. the child side, not the PK portion on the parent side) from the Operations dialog and clicking the Extended Properties. Once again this button will be disabled until you save the key.

No, you can't have it!
