MDG Integrate versus MDG Link, or ?
« on: June 27, 2007, 10:53:01 am »
Is MDG Integrate a more comprehensive version of MDG Link?  Or are they completely different products which do different things?

Also seen some not so favourable comments about MDG Integrate, that it does not behave well with regards to VS.  Anyone with experience who can comment on this?

The primary difference is that Sparx rewrote the engine between VS 2003 and 2005. Link (as I remember it, so verify this) works with 2003 and Integration with 2005.

You kind of have to get into the rhythm of how the Integration works. For example, sometimes you need to rebuild the project (in VS) to get new things to show up, etc. Some of this is due to design issues and limitations on the VS side.

In either case it is likely worth taking the time to use the trial version, so you can get a feel for whether it works for you. Some of the documentation is a bit thin, so you'll need to practice. Don't give up too soon.

Note as well that the next version (of Integrate I think, with the same caveat as above) is in beta, concurrent with EA 7.0. You might want to try that out, and get a chance to report any issues you feel are show-stoppers. There might still be time to affect the final released product.

No, you can't have it!
