EA 7 and roles
« on: July 10, 2007, 07:50:56 am »
Previously (pre 7) it was possible to limit the toolbox display to those items that were defined as applicable to a particular role,  e.g. Business Analyst, Data Architect or whatever - I can no longer find the option so has this disappeared in 7.0 ?   If so why ?   It was a very useful feature to drive this by role rather than by function.
thanks

Graham,

Sparx talked about doing away with the old paradigm and replacing it in EA 7.0. I don't know exactly what they replaced it with. You should check the new documentation - there have been a lot of changes - for stuff relating to the toolbox.

David
No, you can't have it!

you might have missed this - right click on the toolbox and check out the Hide/Show Labels command and the Pin in Toolbox command.

I've checked the documentation and the paradigm has definitely changed !

Yes, there are some options, e.g. to "pin" things to the toolbox, and of course things change dynamically depending on the diagram type,  nevertheless we seem to have lost the ability to use a static toolbox defined for a particular role - e.g.  a business analyst, and I'm not convinced this is a good thing.

Anyway I can see reasons to have both,  so can this be made configurable, or can a hybrid approach be provided, for instance defining toolboxes for a role (as was possibe before) automatically pins those in place if the role is selected ?
