Importing XMI from source
« on: July 24, 2007, 06:56:52 am »
Hi there,

We are working on importing our source into EA to model a large transformation project and to support code analysis. The current import source tools are not capable of doing the import so we are generating an XMI file that will be imported into EA.

A Couple of questions I have are:

Is there an XMI schema available?

If we were to import the XMI over time, what is the best way to capture the changes (elements, connectors etc). We have tossed around a couple of ideas but perhaps there is a way to do this that we are not aware of.

Most of this application is non OO and have determined how we are going to model procedural style code. The question comes when we have interaction between legacy code and newer OO code. Is there a way to link Methods to Procedures?

Look at the UML.DTD and UML_EA.DTD files in your EA executable directory.

One of the other forum members has recently started a topic about this very issue. Do a forum search for "legacy" (without qoutes) and you'll likely find it. Go back a couple of months or so; anything longer than 90 days and you are looking in the wrong place.

PS: There are several options for version control, but I don't think that's appropriate for your needs. Let's see what other ideas show up.
No, you can't have it!
