Show List of Elements in Child Packages in Table
« on: July 25, 2007, 10:47:50 am »
Hi there,

I am trying to create a Use Case template where I am yet again finding difficulties manipulating the RTF editor to replicate a word document already produced.

A specific issue I am having is trying to show a list of actors with elements within the actors (which are contained in 2 different child packages) in a table.

Unfortunately, I am not well versed in the RTF editors functionality with what occurs under the various sections (child packages, child elements and so on), and am learning on a trial and error basis (very time consuming).

If anyone could please assist with how to produce what I believe are 'Elements(Actors)' in a 'Child Package' to show all of the 'Elements(Actors)' with their properties within one table, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've tried the help section, whitepapers, and various searches through the forum, but haven't had much luck.

Thank you for any information you can provide me with!

Sorry, but can anyone help me with this problem? Or is it too specific? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Perhaps all is not lost.

The bad news:

My guess - please note that word - is that there is no predefined template within EA to do what you want.

Not only that, but I doubt that appropriate selection (filtering and the like) are supported, so you'd likely have a lot of trouble doing this even with a custom template.

The (maybe) good news:

Perhaps you can achieve something usable by putting the two packages - the ones that contain your actors - underneath a common parent. Then run a report to document the parent. Remember to include child packages or you won't see any of your actors. If the parent package contains no elements (just the actor packages) then it won't be documented, but the child packages with the actors should be. This sounds like what you want.

Of course this only covers your actor listing. How you relate this to elements, or vice versa, is a bit more work.

Take a look at the relationship matrix, and see if you can report from it. There were limitations on this before EA 7.0, but that may have changed in the new version.
