EAExample.eap & EABase.eap file errors
« on: August 06, 2007, 07:26:27 am »
Can anyone explain or point to a resource to show me how to resovle the following errors?

I have just installed EA 6.5 Corporate floating license and when i go to create/open a new project i get the following errors.  I checked the forums for the first error and it recommended to ensure the file is not read-only.  That has been done, but the problem has not been resolved.

Would copying the EAExample.eap & EABase.eap files from one PC that has EA6.5 working to the PC that is not working resolve the problem?

  • An Error has Occurred: The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'C:\Program Files\Sparx Systems\EA\EAExample.eap'.  It is already opened exclusively  by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
    [/i]

  • An error occurred creating: C:\<filename>.EAP From base model: 'C:\Program Files\Sparx Systems\EA\EABase.eap'

Search for Jet 4.0 in this forum and the EA help (Options).

James,

Let us know if Thomas' solution - or the one he pointed to - works. If not...

If you have MS Access on your workstation, check whether you have Access set to always open files exclusively. Where this is in the Access Options might vary with the version of Access. This might have an effect, but I am really not sure.

bruce is probably right on about this one - check that the MDAC version is OK for EA. If necessary download a later version. Note that some of the later versions of MDAC do not contain a Jet driver, so read the MDAC documentation carefully.

Thank you for the response, but I still have not been able to resolve the issues.

Any other ideas?

Just guessing, but...

Is it possible that you don't have appropriate privileges to open the file? By default, the file is in the directory where EA is installed. If you don't have write privileges to that directory, perhaps EA is objecting.

Try moving a copy of the file to a 'benign' directory.

If there is a file named EAExample.ldb in the same folder, delete it and try again. Might work...

IIRC it's not the local Access version that needs checking, it's the MDAC version.

I found a workaround...

I ticked the "Use JET 4.0 - requires restart" checkbox under Options, closed the window, and closed EA.

Then I went back into EA and unticked the box.

Everything worked fine after that and I was able to create new projects and start creating diagrams.

Now that's just plain weird.

I suggest you submit this as a bug to Sparx. There is obviously a compatibility issue somewhere. Include your OS version and service pack, as well as that of MDAC and MS Access.

There's a Report a Bug link under Support at the bottom of any forum page.
