Duplicate Elements in one Activity Diagram

We're using Enterprise Architect to develop Activty Diagram in UML that will late be used to be put into a BPM solution. There are instances where one activity is reused several times in the process depending on the flow. However, when trying to create multiple instances of it one diagram EA throws an error saying only one instance is allowed per diagram. It is possible to link back to the original instance but often it makes the diagrams more complex than they need to be and just make the diagram messy.

Is there a way around this other than pasting it as a new element. If not, what is the logic for this? I'm sure there is a reason it would be helpful to understand this fully when explaining to other users in the group.

As for activities, I can't understand why you can have the same activity twice in the diagram, but there might be some work around.
I just drop the activity again and again as instance of the original activity.
