« on: August 15, 2007, 03:47:04 am »
How do I change a statechart from the table view back to the diagram view. I can't seem to find a place to click that gives me the Statechart Editor choices from the table view??????

Hi

You can display a State Machine as a diagram or table, and as a table in one of three relationship formats.

To select the display format, follow the steps below:

1. Right-click on the diagram background to display the context menu.

2. Select the Statechart Editor option.

3. Select the appropriate display option:

• Diagram

• Table (State-Next State)

• Table (State-Trigger)

• Table (Trigger-State)

See the first bullet point in RoyC's reply?  Use that!

You have to use the StateChart Editor again to change the current StateChart rendering...

I am very new to this tool and I guess perhaps pretty dense. I am looking at a table view of my states. Where do I click to get back to the State Chart design view? I have clicked all over the table, the project browser and looked all over the menu. I do not see anything that pops up and allows me to choose the State Chart Editor selections. If I close and reopen I only get the table back again. Luckily I have this open in VS also and did not go to the table view there so I am able to resave this version and keep working, otherwise I would be back to Visio:(

Right-click on the diagram background.. not any part of the table.  If you have a large table, you may need to scroll down to find empty space.

Thanks Gary, that was it. This is a very large table and I had not scrolled down far enough to see there was empty space below the table.

Hi Barry,

A short time after I posted my reply, this occurred to me also, but I'd shut down my machine ready for bed :) and I guessed (correctly) that someone would also figure that out...

Welcome to EA's UI (Unique Interface)...  Of which - if you read my posts - I'm not a fan...

You may wonder, as a new user, why the Statechart Editor is NOT an option on the Diagram menu when it is clearly a Diagram context Menu item?  Especially when (as you've observed) if the table occupies the entire panel it isn't intuitive that you need to find some spare diagram space to activiate the context menu.  Since the item doesn't exist as an auxliary item on the context menu for the table cells.

You will need to get used to some functionality being available in one menu and not the other (with no apparent rhyme or reason), in some cases, I believe, the apparently same menu item in both places actually behaves differently...

Enjoy...
Paolo
