Newbie: Sequence diagram: how to add a fragment
« on: August 31, 2007, 07:33:19 am »
I'm a newbie with EA, so sorry for this probably rather stupid question:

When drawing a sequence diagram, how does one add a fragment such that it becomes part of an activation and then moves up and down like all other elements when one modifies something above?

So far, whenever I added a fragment to my first sequence diagram it behaved as if it was placed on an overlay, i.e. a layer of its own. When I later added, removed or resized anything above that fragment all items below would accordingly shift up or down, but the fragment remained on its former position which then every times produces complete nonsense.

The loop (in my case) then suddenly contains items it never was supposed to contain, while other items fall out of the fragment, i.e. I always have to correct the position of the fragment if I change anything above it. This can't be working as designed, can it?

Since the editor is otherwise working so nicely I really can not believe, that fragments were implemented in such an absurd manner, rather I suspect that I must be doing something wrong here. Does one need to "pin" them to a specific location or message so that they get later shifted "with the crowd".

BTW: Notes attached to messages seem to behave similarly, i.e. they remain on their former position, only the line between them and their anchor position changes. This is next to unusable. Is that really how it's supposed to be?

Hope I could make myself clear...

This is using v7.0.815 (build 815) on WinXP.
