Creation of documents from multiple sources
« on: April 16, 2008, 11:07:10 pm »
Is there a docgen tool that will allow a document to be composed by pulling in user selected data from multiple sources such as EA, DOORS , and MS Word ? - am I correct in thinking that the document generator within EA only allows a document to be produced from a selected EA package and third party info from the likes of DOORS and MS Word can't  also be included?

Regarding Word, you can use linked documents for elements (by copying the Word contents into them) and include those elements in the RTF template.
EAs DOORS import is generating requirements elements with text and headers only (depends on the view and field mappings) which you can then generate as RTF into a specific template.
Using master documents and document elements you can then apply different templates for each package in which you store the various document sources.
Let´s say you create master document and one document element each for packages A, B, C with A containing elements with linked documents (which have been filled from Word documents), package B is comprised of requirements elements from DOORS and C uses the EA model.

However the linked documents approach still requires manual work as afaik there is no automated import task available.
