EA Lite on USB Flash Drive
« on: September 10, 2007, 12:37:13 pm »
I am wondering if EA Lite can be put on a flash drive and used with eap files. Do I only need the EA.exe file and the accompanying eap files? Thanks. I will try it, but wondered if anyone else has done this.
Thanks.
Scott

I got this to work. I installed EALite on my machine, then grabbed the following files and put them on the flash drive.
Ea.exe, Ea.tlb, EAViewer.ocx, EAViewer.tlb, key.dat,Layoutu.dll, TemplateRes70.dll,and Ter70.dll. As far as I can tell things work. This is trial and error, so if anyone has any input to improve this, let me know.
I just need to be able to display some diagrams for presentations and do not need the full blown install.
Thanks,
Scott

I ended up adding about all of the files in the EA Lite directory as there were a few items that did not work quite right. Now, I will have to see how this registry issue plays out.
Any chance of changing the registry to an ini file option?

One difficulty you will probably face is that there are registry options that effect how diagrams are drawn.  So if you're not careful when making your model you may get unexpected results when drawing.

I did experience some unexpected results with some of the diagrams. For example in the sequence diagram, a communication link (method call) was not drawn, when in the original diagram it was there. Thanks for the heads up.
