Define document template for profiled element
« on: April 22, 2008, 03:22:45 am »
Hi,

I am defining custom document types as profiled elements and I would like to know if it is possible to create an element in a profile that would behave like <<document>> artifact (dblclk to open document window) but it would have predefined template selected?
Right now user has to select proper document type, I would like to simplify that to avoid some troubles.
I haven't found any attribute to define it in a profile :(.

Regards
Kris

Hi Kris,

If I understand what you want to do, you won't be able to do it with a profile alone. You should be able to do it with an add-in. Check out the Enterprise Architect Add-in Model section of EA Help; it is just above the Object model in the contents tree.

You'll want to trap some of the events - when a new element is added, an existing one is double-clicked, the properties page is called up, and such - and you will also likely want to cancel the default EA dialog. It looks a bit daunting the first time, but it is actually pretty easy to do.
