getting stereotypes shapes from profiles
« on: October 23, 2007, 07:33:58 am »
I figures out how to define stereotypes and add images or new shapes as well as colours. This is really cool. So I added the profile after saving it to some model project. But neither seems to get imported. Is the setting only local to an EA project?

Rich,

These are stored as reference data. Use the Export Reference Data function to take them out of your current model, and Import Reference Data to get them into a new one.

If you want these to be present in all new models you create, you can edit the EABase model in your EA installation directory to include this data. EA uses this model as the 'seed' content when you create a new model.

Before you edit EABase, read up on reference data in EA Help. Remember that you will overwrite what's in the target model. As with so many other things, remember to make a backup copy of EABase before you make changes.

Simon is correct, of course.

That's twice I've forgotten to mention this (obvious) alternative.

:D Yes. That looks very promising. We develop some Domain Specific Language and want to distribute the profiles with some product we want to sell. Thats why packaging everything together would be great.

So we would have a number of profiles e.g. for the different development stages or for different target platforms that could be imported together.
