Packages Numbering
« on: February 26, 2008, 01:51:37 am »
Hi All,
i created a simple package "paperino" with inside 3 sub-packages "qui", "quo", "qua". Now i created a template in which i want numbering "paperino" as 1 and "qui" as 1.1, "quo" as 1.2 and "qua" as 1.3 . Standard numbering set instead "paperino" as 1 and "qui" as 1.0, "quo" as 1.1 and "qua" as 1.2. Is there anyone can give me a solution???? Thanks in advance!!!!

Numering is a topic of its own with a lots of pitfalls. One is if your document is nested (by packages, subelements, etc.) you will get constructs like 2.3.1.2.1.4.2.1.2 which are not very helpful in the end.

It is not even well documented- actually it is hard to come to satisfactory results.

So here we go:

First you will have to create a list item from the "Edit->Lists and Overrides->Create List Item" menu.
Check the "Multi list item" box and, if you need it, the "Restart at section break" box.
If you did this, you can open the list level editor from the  "Edit->Lists and Overrides->Edit List Level" menu.
In the combo box select the list item you have created. You can now change the appearance of each list level by defining the enumeration string in the "Number text" edit field.
Choose the other options as to your likeage.

Then close the dialog with OK.
Create some heading styles and edit them by choosing "Numbering" from the paragraph menu and select the appropriate list level for each heading from the List Numbering dialog in the same menu (Paragraph->List Numbering). Make sure so select the list item you have been previously creating.

If you base your template on an existing one you will have a lot of list items being defined.
Make sure not to get confused.

Hope that helps.

Oliver
