Benefits of RaQuest?
« on: March 08, 2005, 08:16:02 am »
Hello,

I feel like I must be missing something on RaQuest. We are trying to decide if we could benefit from purchasing RaQuest to go along with EA. I downloaded the trial version of it and have been working with it, but I don't see a huge added benefit in having it.

Would someone be so kind as to explain to me what I'm missing? How are you using it that makes a big difference for your organization? What features of it are particularly beneficial?

Thank you!
Kimberly

Hello,

Basically, you can manage requirements with EA itself. RaQuest is a tool to enhance EA's features.

For example, if you want to know the dependencies between requirements, you can:

1. create a new diagram, and then place the target requirement, and then call EA feature to place related requirements into the diagram
(or use the Relationship window)

- or -

2. right-click the requirement in RaQuest and call the feature to see dependencies

RaQuest stores all information to the EA project file, so basically you can do the same or a similar operation by EA. RaQuest will save your time in some situation.

Hope this helps.

Raquest provides a way of focussing solely on requirements which for pure business analysts can be helpful.  It does have some useful features, e.g. Use Case generation from requirements and the presentation of requirements in list form with in line editing of properties is helpful.   All in all to me it is a useful addition, however I think the pricing is wrong for what is essentially an add-in.

N.B  I have been told by Sparx Systems Japan that  the current version of Raquest does not handle the formatted notes available in EA 7.1 although this is being worked on.
