Export RTF template issues
« on: April 22, 2008, 11:40:42 am »
Hi guys,

I am trying to generate a decent looking document for our requirements which I have put in a tree-like structure to suit the hierarchy style used in our organisation. However, I have noticed that I do not have the ability to specifically format or control the contents of the child requirements. Besides, it does not even remember the format changes made to the parent requirement set.

Can anyone please tell me a workaround. I am using the corporate version of EA7.1. Any help will be appreciated.

Regards.

Longer posts of mine always start with phrases like "First of all", so here it is:

First of all please remember that the RTF generator is documenting elements, not hierarchies or content. That means it traverses a hierarchy and applies the same styles and settings to each element it finds.

You can fiddle around with list numbering in the RTF template editor and modify the different styles in the templates to suit your need, then apply the style to the corresponding hierarchy.
The default basic template might give you an idea here.
EA will automatically adjust the style level to the hierarchy level.

You can also try the master document approach and apply different templates for the model documents inside.
Create a master document and several document models for each hierarchy level, then include the hierarchy level packages in the document models you would like to see there. This is a bit tricky as it requires some more organising of elements and a carefule usage of packages. Instead of packages a model document can be populated by a search criteria which might also be an option.

The online help will help you get going further here.
