functional requirements issue
« on: May 11, 2008, 12:02:48 am »
Hi,

i'm still working on functional requirements under EA v7.0.813.
i have noticed several differences between what i have and the white papers or video/tutorials.

1. to what correspond the small colored vertical bar in requirement rectangle object ? for me it is always the default color (the same as in the requirement textbox - grey) ?
I've seen in video that several colors exist but i do not find to what it corresponds or how to change it.

2. when i try to get the report view from all requirements, in the main menu View -> item Report does not exist.
where is the problem ? what should i setup before to have it visible and to get the report of all features and their relative status ?

thx.

in fact when i apply the "approved", "validated" or any other status to the requirement object, nothing change and no color status bar appears.
This even if the standard settings are used (regarding color : e.g. blue for approved, green for validated, and so on...

so where is the problem ?

That said, you can also use this to show color for additional elements. You'll need to do two things.

From the main menu open the Settings | General Types dialog. It should default to the Status tab; click the tab if it does not. For each color - those supplied by EA or the ones you add yourself - click the Applies to button. Check those element types you want to display this status color. Once you've done this for each status and element type, exit the dialog.

Not invoke the Tools | Options | Objects dialog. On the right-side list, ensure that Shadows On is checked. EA displays colors for most elements by shading the shadow (that lets the element notation remain 'pure') so if you don't have shadows turned on you will not see the colors (even though EA might 'think' it has displayed them for you).

Well done...
I must admit that I also had problems with that issue, when I started using EA. In my opinion this option should be set on, as the default option in EA.
Is there a reason why it is turned off?

AFAIK because it is an extension to standard UML notation and practice.

But that's just a guess...

That said, it would be nice to have some control over this.

It might be worth checking whether this setting is stored in the registry or the EABase project. [Some settings are also stored on a per-project basis, but I don't think that is the case here.]

In the former case you only need to change the setting once, or once per machine-user combination.

In the latter case you could edit the EABase project to get the setting to 'stick.'

EA also lets you copy a user-designated project when creating a new model. This function can be accessed from the start page.

You could also create a 'seed' project in your DBMS of choice and use it to populate new projects.
