Table in Requirement element Notes field?
« on: May 17, 2008, 08:03:39 am »
I am trying to create a table in the Notes field of the Requirement element.

I am able to copy/paste a cell range from Excel, and it looks ok at first:

But when you click OK to close the Requirement, and then reopen it, the table formatting is lost:

Is there any way to display a table in this field please?

Thanks.

Tables aren't supported in the notes fields, they only support the simple formatting styles available on the toolbar.  If you want full formatting capabilities including tables then you'll need to use a linked document.

Thanks Simon.  As far as I can tell though, you cannot include the contents of the linked file in an RTF report, correct?  That is my ultimate goal, to spit out one file with all my requirements in it, including tables...

If you have a document listed in the files tab it can't be included inline in the RTF report (to my knowledge), but this wasn't what I was talking about.

Try right clicking on your requirement and selecting 'Create Linked Document'.  The document created here can be generated to your RTF or HTML report.  In your template check the 'Model Document' section under 'Element' (or 'Package Element' if you also want to have them for packages.)

I don't see an option called 'Create Linked Document', or anything similar, when I right-click on the Requirement in the Project Browser (see linked screenshot http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture1pe4.png).

Where is this please, this is exactly what I need!  Thanks!

In the project browser in build 829 it just has the title 'Linked Document'.  What build of EA are you using?  Try doing it from a diagram.

I figured it out... you only get the 'Linked Document' option against any element, in the Corporate edition.  I only have the Desktop edition.

But in the Desktop edition you can create an Artifact, with stereotype <<document>>, and associate it with the Requirement element, and achieve the same result.

Thanks!

In the Project Browser the option is Linked Document, about 2/3 the way down the menu. If you right-click on a Requirement element in a diagram, the option is Create Linked Document, in the top section of the menu, fourth option down. OR click on the Requirement in the diagram or Project Browser and click on the Element option in the main menu bar at the top of the screen, OR click on the element and press Ctrl+Alt+D.

HTH
Best Regards, Roy
