Version Control - HELP!!!
« on: June 03, 2008, 07:25:42 pm »
Hi All

I have a bunch of XMI files that are under source control - they were controlled via EA.

Now I need to set up a model for a new user.
So I created a new EA project
Created the version control settings
Did a 'Get All'
This did indeed get all the XMl files from source control and placed them in the correct place on disk. BUT nothing appeared in the project browser. So I did a get package on the top level package. This brought in the top level package and also the nested packages.

BUT the nested packages are empty.

If I try to 'Get Package' on nested package I get told that the packages have no connection to version control and there seems no way of getting them into the model.

PLEASE can someone tell me the correct procedure?

I am using Vault from Source Gear
I am using EA V7.1.829 - although I believe that the orignal XMI files were created using an earlier version

You're almost there, just a little mixed up.

Use Get Package to get your top level package(s).
Then call Get All Latest to import all packages from there.

To make this simpler use Model Branches.

This allows you to select from a list of only the top level packages, and automatically calls Get All Latest after importing the top level one.

Hi Simon, perhaps you could help me as well with a version control issue.

EA version 7.0.816
Merant Version Manager 8.0.2.3

We had an existing model loaded into EA, then I set about configuring the source control.  We have a project database created on our VM server which EA appears to recognize (when you open EA it prompts for the VM project folder - which does appear in the list).

However, here is my challenge, under package control I only have an option to check-in, but if you select that option you get a message, "no checked out package detected.

If you attempt to do a Get Package, I select the version control configuration from the dropdown, but the "select shared file for" box remains empty and the OK button never activates.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you problem is.  You may be better off directly asking sparx support.
