Dear all,
I have a problem that I can't figure out how to solve in EA. What I want to achieve is to visualise that certain things "belong" to something else, e.g. that functions are provided by an application, people are employed in a businessunit, applications are deployed on a server, etc.
Let's take the functions<->applications scenario: The way I would normally do this is to create a diagram with a pool (or alternatively a lane), where the pool represents the application. I would then add functions to the pool, so that they visually appear as inside the pool (and thus being seen as part of the application). So far, so good :-)
My problem is that I want to analyse using the relationship matrix. And what I would like to find out is what functions are provided by a given application, and alternatively, what application provides a given function. This I cannot figure out how to do using the matrix! :-( I can create relationships between the functions and applications, but I feel that this clutters the diagram and makes it less visually pleasing... (Yes, I know that I can hide the relationships, but this is time-consuming and not intuitive for the novice users that I want to work with the tool).
Any ideas? I posted another topic (
http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1203065724/7) on this some time ago, but could not get the suggestions working...
So in this case I want to visualise the application as a Pool...
In addition to this I want to model from another viewpoint, and only visualise the application as a single visual element, e.g. as a Component. This component will then be part in other diagrams, and I may want to add relationship between this and e.g. the server that is is deployed on.
The application is the same, even if it is visualised as a Pool or as a Component. So in the relationship matrix I should be able to identify both which functions the application provides, and what server the application is deployed on.
Is this possible?
Best regards,
Tore
