Is there any way for EA to recognize file extensions like .cxx

As C++ source?

Have a look at the C++ options page. (Tools | Options | Source Code Engineering | C++)  There are various options for file extensions there.

Thanks for the response, i have added the extension .cxx to the c++ (Tools | Options | Source Code Engineering | C++|Import File Externsions) , however when adding source code file EA locks up.

BTW the .cxx has sql commands(procs)

I can't even guess about what might be going on.

Fill in the bug report form from the link below and include a file that causes EA to lock up.
