Scaling of embedded diagrams ?
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:33:52 pm »
Hello,

is it possible to scale embedded diagrams ?
The intension is, to create a one-page overview showing all sublevel business processes, where all subprocesses are shown as mini-pictures to form a complete overview.

Here is an example, how it should look:

Is this possible ?

Greetings
Bernd

The closest that I can think of would be to capture an image of the diagram and use that as an alternate image.  The resulting image can then be scaled.

The disadvantage of this is that it's not updated automatically.  I'm sure you could get an addin to do it automatically though.

Wasn't that worth a general feature request ?

IMHO yes, and very much so.

At the very least an add-in would have a dreadful time with positioning. Considering the limitations of the layout function, even via the UI, positioning of such a diagram would likely have to be done by hand.

Consider that an add-in does not have - or certainly didn't have when I requested this; I've had no feedback from Sparx nor seen anything in the release notes that suggest a change since - the ability to layout only selected elements via automation (as we can in the UI). This means that the graphic in question is subject to the whims of EA on layout. Otherwise the add-in would have to have a pretty good idea of the aesthetics of the picture to choose an appropriate spot.

Yes, let's get this into the EAUI at least.

Since this is a crucial aspect to my current project: What is the suggested way to add this feature request ? Sparx homepage / registered users ? Or is there any other option to speed up this process ?

This is an example for an overview diagram provided by a competitor product (Visual Paradigm):

Sorry Bernd, I was away for a bit.

Yes, submit a feature request through the link on the Registered Users page. That's the best you can do.

Provide Sparx with a link to this thread by pasting in the URL and quoting the title. That will allow them to participate in the discussion. Perhaps they will offer some insight or even a workaround.

Please also post back any reply you get.
