Setting Default Line Styles
« on: June 15, 2008, 12:36:29 pm »
I am still inexperienced in working with EA, but one thing I know that I want to do is to set the default line style for associations to routed lines.  Some may like the direct style, but I would be much happier with routed lines.

When I chose Diagram\Layout Diagram from the menu, not only did the application rearrange all my classes, but it changed all my line styles from routed back to a default direct styles.

Is there a way to prevent this?

No, unfortunately the diagram layout only works with custom line styles where it can place waypoints anywhere it wants.

We are working on some improved layout options, but I can't go into details about that yet.

Henry,

From the main menu choose Tools | Options (or control-F9) and click the Links panel. See Default Style at the top right.

AFAIK there is no way to prevent EA from disturbing your line styles on a diagram layout operation. You might mitigate this a bit by selecting only a subset of elements on the diagram before invoking layout. [I do not believe there is a way to do this via the API, it seems only to be possible via the UI.]

You can reverse an autolayout by pressing Ctrl+Z. (Just don't save the autolayout first, of course!)

It is of limited help, for smaller diagrams, but you could also copy your diagram, do an autolayout on one version and then manually reproduce any bits you want to keep in the other.
