Incorrect package content display
« on: June 25, 2008, 10:27:00 pm »
Strange issue.  I have EA 7.1 830 installed on a 2003 server machine, and a project that was created on an XP machine.  In the project there is a package hierarchy (a sample below)

Infrastructure View
    Racks
        Racks Pkg diagram
        Rack node 1
        Rack node 2
    Blade Enclosures
        Blade enclosures Pkg diagram
        Blade Enclosure node 1
        Blade Enclosure node 2

When I view the Racks Pkg diagram, I also see Blade Enclosure nodes listed in it.  This only happens on 2003 and not on XP.  Both machines are running identical versions of EA.  The same thing happens to all packages in the project.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

Thank you
Bobby

What is the project stored in, an EAP file or a DBMS repository? And in the latter case what product and version? Are they the same as on the XP machine?

Do the blade nodes have any links to the rack nodes? Perhaps EA has redrawn the diagrams on the fly in the new (second) installed instance. EA sometimes does that, but I suspect (without proof) that this should only happen when all the elements involved have some direct relationship.

No, you can't have it!

The project is stored in an EAP file.  Yes, there is a nesting relationship between blades and blade enclosures.  e.g. Rack node 1 has a nesting relationship with Blade Enclosure node 1.

Thank you for responding.

I think I figured it out.  It is used Tools -> Options -> Diagram -> Behavior -> Show Linked items in package

So it does not seem like an issue, I had the wrong option enabled for my use

I will try on the 2003 computer and post results.

Thanks,
Bobby

OK Bobby, let us know if the issue clears up. I doubt you are the first to encounter this, and you certainly won't be the last. Others will benefit from the results, either way.

Turns out it wasn't an issue, but an option which includes the linked items in the package diagram.  This is where to find it:

Tools -> Options -> Diagram -> Behavior -> Show Linked items in package

If it is checked, then you will see the linked elements (even if they sit outside the package and are linked to any element within the package) show up in the package diagram.  Just uncheck it and everything returns to normal (at least normal in our case).

Thanks for the help and follow up.
