RTF document template
« on: July 04, 2008, 10:07:18 pm »
When I am done with a model I usually use the "Generate RTF Document" feature to let EA generate a Rich Text Format document of my model.

The problem arises when in most cases one has to use a Microsoft Word document following a corporate template (for example, for design documents). Then I have noticed that one has to spend A LOT of time reformatting the RTF template or doing cut & paste + reformat. This is unproductive and time consuming. Beside there is a lot of items that I am not interested to have in the generated document (object ID, etc.).

Is there a way one can use a customized corporate template (Word) and have control over the format of the items (mapping to the document's styles such as Heading 1, Heading 2, Normal, etc.) as well as to specify which fields one is interested in?

I notice that in the generated document A LOT of information is not really in normal text but "fields" (or "merge fields") which also makes the editing a bit cumbersome.

Just wondering what others are doing with it in hopes that I don't have to lose as much time reformatting the document(s).

I cannot remember, but you might be able to specify styles by name in your template. If so, Word can be set to remap styles it recognizes when it imports a document.
No, you can't have it!

Hi emilio,

You can make your own templates in EA. In the 'use template' list choose '<new template>'. EA gives you the opportinity to copy a corporate template. Then EA starts the document template editor. You can now modify the template the way you want.

Hello Emillio,

See the latest RTF whitepaper - there is a section:
IMPORTING A COMPANY TEMPLATE      p34
that covers the basic steps for importing an external company template and adding existing template Sections to this:
