Shared Keys - Floating License
« on: July 25, 2008, 02:09:09 am »
With the keystore, is there a way to view who currently holds the shared keys?  In our setup, Im seeing that there are no shared keys available, but I don't know how to tell who is using them.

Also, the minimum timeout for the shared keys is 24 hours.  Is there a way to make this smaller, or to make the keys relinquish when a user closes EA?

Hi Mike,

The issue of identifying users came up recently. The answer was that this is not currently possible.[edit]See below. The thread mentioned next may still be of use, so I've let the reference stand.[/edit] There was some additional discussion that might be of interest to you. I'll leave it to you to look up the thread; there was activity in the past month, but I don't thing the last week.

As to the timeout, I really don't know. Sparx often refers people to the documentation, but this is not published separately from the software kit, so I'm not up on what is currently possible. Same for the key release, although perhaps this is possible.

Sorry I don't have good news or more help. Keep watching this thread - or set the notify option to get an email when people post here.

The keystore application itself (where the keys are added to the keystore) includes a column showing for each key, who it is assigned to.  It also includes an options (Tools | Options) that includes a checkbox for auto-checkin.

RE "The keystore application itself ... "
Thanks Simon.  I will look at that with our IT Manager.

I am still exploring EA as a tool for our business and working through the issues.

I was hoping that the key would relinquish automatically when a user exits EA.  I've discovered that I cannot access EA from two different computers in the same day without manually giving up the key each time I log off.

A very long shot here...

What (if anything) happens if you set the key retention period to zero days?

Ok - We tried it again today and it works fine.

After I exit EA, the key gets released automatically and I can then start EA on a different PC.  When I restart EA, I don't have to select a key, it uses the previous one, if it is available.  I can also see the key assignment and release happening using the SSKeyStore program.  This is the behavior we wanted.  Thanks!

It don't know why it didn't seem to work this way last week.  Maybe confusion on our part, maybe some sort of first-pass initialization issue...
