RTF Generator and Level Numbering
« on: September 18, 2008, 09:25:15 pm »
Hi,

I am attempting to generate a report containing requirement elements. The elements have a hierarchical structure which can be seen when viewing the element list with 'show level numbering' selected. The requirements are ordered correctly in the project browser. However, when I generate a report that lists the requirements they appear in the following order:-

1 Requirement a
2 Requirement f
3 Requirement j
1.1 Requirement b
1.2 Requrement e
2.1 Requirement g
2.2 Requirement h
2.3 Requirement i
1.1.1 Requrement c
1.1.2 Requrement d

I would have expected the order to be:-
1
1.1
1.1.1
1.1.2
1.2
2
2.1
2.2
2.3
3

Why is this? The Generate RTF Documentation | Options screen is set to order packaged and elements by tree order.

Any help is appreciated.

What version and build of EA are you using? Are you at 7.1 build 832?
No, you can't have it!

If it does not, search the forum to see if there is a solution. There are a lot of hints about this area of EA.

Failing that, use the Notification button near the bottom right of the posts to help you monitor this thread.

If you don't see an answer in a few days - you can afford to leave it a while, since tomorrow will be the start of the weekend in Australia (where Sparx is) then send a message to Sparx Support.

And remember to check whether build 833 has come out before you do. It is getting to be about that time.

How do you generate the RTF document? If you use a "model document" icw a tagged value called: "searchname", EA searches an element db and puts elements in the order in which they are in the db. In that case, this could easily look random. Didn't try this myself, but might be of some value to you. If you do use the model document, then try clicking right on a package you would like to generate a document for and generate the document through this menu.

(See: http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?rearrangethepackageorder.htm)

The document in question was generated through right-clicking on the package, not through a model document (althrough I will try this method to see if it makes any difference).

I have sent this information to sparx support who have duplicated the issue and have escalated it to the appropriate department. Hopefully, this will be a bug that is easily rectified.

Cheers.
Rich.
