Reporting/Documentation for Model Views
« on: November 07, 2008, 01:34:10 am »
Hi,
I am currently working on a Enterprise Architecture project, where I'd like to show my model (made up of Packages and Components -> which represents Systems and Applications respectively), using different views.
I've looked at the Model Views tabs and this fits the bill perfectly - except that I can't draw any reports/documentation from the model views?

It seems that while the EA tool is great for System Design - it falls apart as soon as any type of serious  enterprise architecture work is attempted:question

Without commenting on your 'view' of EA - sorry, I just had to do that - it might be worth noting that model views came along in EA 7.0. They didn't actually work at first, and a breaking change was needed to get them to where they are now.

Overall, they seem to hold much potential. Like many situations where "potential" is evident, it is most evident because it has yet to be realized. That might not be a dead end though...

I strongly urge you to make one or more - depending on how your requirements sort themselves out when clearly written - directly to Sparx. Use the Feature Request link below the Support link near the bottom of any forum page.

You might want to urge Sparx to extend the MDG Technologies and automation to make greater use of the Model Views features of EA (both those that exist now and the new features you propose).

Sparx does take feature requests seriously. That does not guarantee that they will be implemented, but it does add weight to them. At the very least, if enough of the user base takes the time to request something Sparx is considering, it can increase the chance that feature will be included.

No, you can't have it!
