Hyperlink in Element Notes ?
« on: November 20, 2008, 10:09:23 pm »
Doesn't look like it's possible to put a hyperlink in the Notes section of an element.

I know that I can add a hyperlink to the diagram.

Customer wants to be able to link from the Notes to their corporate intranet.

Is there any way to do this?

You might know this already but if you open the properties dialog there is a tab labeled "Files" in which you can assign hyperlinks to an element. Just change from "Local file" to "Web address".
When generating the HTML and RTF output the entry is converted into a clickable hyperlink.

I hope this is of any help.

Hi Oliver

Thanks for that tip -- it's close enough to what we want to do that we can use that approach.

However - when I generate the html documentation and attempt to click on the www. URL for an object -- I find the link is to a local file:// designation, not to the originally entered http://www. URL.

The message is: "The file /C:/Users/zeina/Desktop/Test EA HTML Output/EARoot/www.google.com.au cannot be found. Please check the location and try again."

And I did change the 'File Type' to 'Web Address' from 'Local File' on the Files tab, as you indicated. And when I click on the 'Launch' button on the Properties | File dialog -- the URL correctly finds the external internet URL (and does not attempt to find a local file)...

I'm wondering what I have missed? Any ideas? Has this happened to you?

Thanks again -- Jon

Jon, I am afraid but actually this did not happen to me.
We do the same thing here and it used to work lately so there must have changed something lately with the report generation process.

Did you change the HTML templates by chance ?
What is generated in the corresponding HTML section ? Which browser did you use ? Maybe the browser itself is not able to recognise the URL.
Did you prepend the http:// protocol section to the URL ? If not, try to do it.
