BPMN Modeling using pools and lanes
« on: November 26, 2008, 01:13:12 am »
Hello everybody,

I am quite new to UML and Business Process Modeling. I just downloaded an EA trial and played with it.

Now I tried to use the BPMN elements "pool" and "lane", but I couldn't figure out how to add a lane to a pool. Is there anybody out the who can tell me how to do this?

Thanks a lot,

Put a pool and lane on the diagram, and as long as the lane is smaller than the pool, drag the lane onto the pool.

Usability of BPMN pools and lanes (and the UML activity partitions that they extend) isn't great, but a lot of work has gone into improving things for EA 7.5

Once you have the pool on the diagram it may help to make it non-selectable in order to work with the lanes and elements within the lanes more effectively without inadvertently selecting the pool.

Now THAT'S a useful bit of information that I hadn't thought of before. I had seen the 'make non-selectable' option before but it hadn't clicked as to when it would be useful.

Thanks!  ;D
