Vista 64
« on: November 25, 2008, 06:30:07 am »
We're looking to use Enterprise Architect at my office, but we're also just starting a migration to Vista 64.  I see on the requirements page that Vista 64 is not supported.  Is this correct?

Also, on the floating license page ( http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/products/ea/corporate_floating_version.html) it says that it only supports Windows NT/2000/XP.  Is this information correct?

Thanks in advance for any help.

For a start, that page is talking about running the keystore application.  Although I doubt that the information is up to date.

The system requirements for EA itself are at http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/products/ea/sysreq.html.  They include Windows Vista (32bit) and special Vista install instructions at the bottom of the page.

I suspect that the reference to 32 bit there is that EA is only compiled as a 32 bit application.  That shouldn't stop it running under a 64bit edition of vista.

Just to back up what Simon has stated:

There is no native 64bit version of EA, however it will run without problems using the Windows-On-Windows 32 bit emulation layer which is available by default on Vista 64 (afaik). From what I've seen there is no material performance cost when running through the emulation layer.

We periodically run tests on Vista 64 and have not come across any compatibility problems. If you have any support issues regarding Vista 64, we will be more than happy to address them through the regular support channels.
Best Regards,

Michael

Re: Vista 64 ... and ODBC connector
« Reply #3 on: November 29, 2008, 01:41:14 pm »
EA works fine under Vista x64 but the ODBC connection can be more than a bit confusing ...

The vista ODBC data sources connect to 64 bit ODBC drivers ...

and EA expects 32 bit connections ....

use .... syswow64\odbcad32.exe to work with / define 32 bit databases under Vista x64.
