How to Move elements into the Project Browser?
« on: January 14, 2009, 08:14:19 pm »
Which is the easiest way to move Up/Down the elements into the Project Browser? The only way to move elements seems to be using the MoveUP/Down items from the "Element Context Menu", but this approach is really slow. There is no way to quickly move the elements either using the mouse or assigning a keyboard shortcut to the "Element Context Menu" MoveUP/Down items.

If you widen the project browser there are up/down arrows.

Ctrl + (Up or Down) also moves the currently selected element.

+1.

If one has many elements in the project browser list, moving them one-by-one is a pain, it's just too slow.

I like to keep elements in alphabetical order in the project browser, but the browser doesn't assist with this. I think it is reasonable to expect it should sort elements according to the user's preference. Alphabetical sorting being one such preference.

In fact, when I drag and drop an element from a package up a level to the project browser list - the location of the 'dropped' element in the project browser list seems to be random. Is there any sense to how it finds it's sort order in the project browser?

Again, these are the kind of low-level, detailed usability aspects that Sparx should be able to recognise themselves, without nongs like me having to nag them about it, and just fix them.

Then there's printing.

Right-click on a Package and choose Contents > Reset Sort Order. This sorts the elements in the package in alpha order.

Great, it works fine for me!

I did look for the shortcut before asking, but the "Keyboard accelerator Map" does not show any command assigned to Ctrl+Up/Down keys.

Doh! I take it all back! Thanks, Dorian. You're an EA Ninja. (How did you ever find THAT one, buried in the menu trail?)

One of the Sparx Support folks told me actually, I can't take the credit!   ;)

Glad I could help.
