Custom Model Validations
« on: January 16, 2009, 11:31:42 pm »
Hi all,

I want to add some model validations to EA according our own guidelines.

How can I add validations to EA?

You can customize how EA applies its own built in rules, but adding your own rules is a different matter.

AFAIK you can do this by creating an MDG Technology profile. This is not a simple matter - something that can be easily explained in a forum post. Instructions are in the EA documentation. There is a learning curve, but stick with it. [Hint: follow the instructions to the letter. Small variations are often the cause of strange problems.]
No, you can't have it!

See http://www.sparxsystems.com/uml_tool_guide/sdk_for_enterprise_architect/validation.html.

Even better, there is a complete example (for C#) at http://www.sparxsystems.com/uml_tool_guide/sdk_for_enterprise_architect/model_validation_example.html

PS. I'd recommend looking at the second page in something other than firefox.  I found that it's much more readable in IE, but haven't tested anything else.  Hopefully our web developers can fix that for us soon.  I don't like making a recommendation like that.
